About the GAP

The Grant Assist Program is an initiative by the Office of the Vice-President (Research), designed to enhance the quality and competitiveness of applications to the Tri-Council agencies (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) and other major research competitions.

The programme began in 2011 with support for applicants to the Canadian Centres for Health Research. Support for Engineering, Humanities, and Natural and Social Sciences researchers was piloted in 2013. The three-pronged programme (CIHR, NS&E, SS&H) was included in the University of Alberta's comprehensive institutional plan For the Public Good and approved by the Board of Governors in June 2016.

This site is focused on Social Sciences and Humanities researchers. If you are seeking support for CIHR or NSERC oriented research, please use the "Quick Links" to find the other sites.

The G.A.P SS&H supports faculty members applying to the Insight Development Grant, Insight Grant, Partnership Development Grant or Partnership Grant stages one and two. If you are planning to apply to any of these major competitions please review the "Who can help" and the "Toolkit for Success" tabs to the left.
